Atalanta have resigned Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon from Middlesbrough for a fee of €13.5 million excluding bonuses.

De Roon left Bergamo for Middlesbrough last summer but after their relegation to the English Championship, the midfielder has returned to Italy.

The deal was confirmed on Friday with Atalanta paying €13.5 million for the 26-year-old but that fee could rise to €15 million. A nice profit for Middlesbrough, who only paid €10.5 million last summer.

The Netherlands international scored five goals in 36 league and cup games during his spell at Boro.
