FC Utrecht ran out 3-0 winners over a 10-man Sparta Rotterdam on Friday evening.

The first half was not a spectacle in Het Kasteel with a Sander van de Streek cross that clipped the crossbar the only real note of action.

Three minutes into the second half, Sparta were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area. Captain Adil Auassar then lost his head and struck out at Sean Klaiber which earned him a straight red card via VAR.

From the resulting free-kick, Vito van Crooy struck the post and the rebound was hit against the crossbar from Tobias Lauritsen. Utrecht goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas was injured in the action and the game was halted after he was pelted by objects from the crowd.

Fifteen minutes before the end, Victor Jensen netted his first Eredivisie goal to put Utrecht in front. The visitors continued to push and Othmane Boussaid and Anthony Descotte both added to the scoreline before the end.

A comfortable win in the end for Utrecht, who are still seventh but now level on points with Sparta.
