Ajax were among the top seeds having won their group and they drew Polish side Legia Warsaw. The two sides met in the last 16 of the same competition last year with Ajax coming out on top 4-0 on aggregate. However, the Polish side are much improved from last year, having qualified for the Europa League after finishing ahead of Sporting Lisbon in their Champions League group.
AZ Alkmaar found themselves in the second pot having finished behind Zenit st Petersburg in their group, and they have been handed a tricky tie against French giants Lyon.
The first leg of the ties will take place on the 16th of February with the 2nd legs two weeks later.
