NEC Nijmegen are up to sixth place in the Eredivisie after an impressive 4-2 win at AZ Alkmaar.

santos necThe home crowd were excited to see Mounir El Hamdoui back in action for AZ Alkmaar after he re-joined the club on a free transfer last month, but the striker was overshadowed by an excellent NEC performance.

The away side were deservedly ahead on 29 minutes when Anthony Limbombe fired a free kick past Coutinho, but four minutes later Markus Henriksen equalised with a measured strike.

However the home side’s parity was short lived before Christian Santos put NEC back in front a minute after the equaliser with an excellent volley. At the start of the second half it was 3-1 through Lucas Woudenberg before Limbombe netted his second before the hour mark.

Henriksen pulled one back for AZ with a close range header, but it was nothing more than a consolation as NEC comfortably saw out their win.

NEC move above PEC Zwolle into sixth, while AZ remain 11th.
