AZ Alkmaar hammered Astana 6-0 to book their first victory in the Europa League group stages.

AZ boss Arnie Slot was boosted by the return of striker Myron Boadu, who missed the weekend’s defeat to Heerenveen.

After two draws, AZ were in need of a win on Thursday night and they finally took the lead in the 39th minute. Dmitri Shomko handled in the box and Teun Koopmeiners netted from the penalty spot.

Four minutes later, Boadu made it 2-0 as he turned Jonas Svensson’s shot into the net from close range.

AZ continued to dominate after the break but they had to wait until the 73rd minute to add a third via Calvin Stengs, who netted after Oussama Idrissi’s strike was parried.

Evgeni Postnikov handled in the box leading to another penalty in the 83rd minute, which Koopmeiners scored again to make it 4-0. Yuki Sugawara then quickly added a fifth before Idrissi completed the rout in injury time.

AZ move onto five points which is two behind leaders Manchester United. In two weeks, AZ head to Kazakhstan for another clash with Astana.
