FC Emmen tasted defeat in the Eredivisie for the first time as AZ Alkmaar ran out 4-1 winners on Sunday.

Emmen got their first ever Eredivisie campaign off to a great start with a win at ADO Den Haag last week but AZ Alkmaar, who had Albert Gudmundsson on the bench, was a step up in opponents.

After 15 minutes the away side took the lead with Myron Boadu left alone to slot in Mats Seuntjens cross from close range. However, Emmen replied instantly through Nick Bakker, who found himself free at the back post to score from a corner.

Both sides then traded chances before Thomas Ouwejan fired AZ back in front on 37 minutes with a curling strike from distance which flew into the top corner. Before the break, Oussama Idrissi found himself well position to seize on an error at the back and net AZ’s third.

In the second half, AZ Alkmaar continued to dominate and Idrissi added a fourth before the end after a nice combination with Boadu.

The victory means AZ remains top of the table with their superior goal difference to PSV.
