AZ, who won their opener 4-0 at Fortuna Sittard last weekend, brought back Jonas Svensson into the starting line-up with Yukinari Sugawara dropping to the bench. RKC were looking to bounce back from their 3-1 loss at VVV Venlo.
The away side dominated from the start with Calvin Stengs, Myron Boadu and Oussama Idrissi causing the RKC defence plenty of issues. Eventually, in the 35th minute, Boadu played Idrissi in on goal and the winger slotted an excellent finish into the top corner.
Thomas Ouwejan wasted a good chance before Idrissi made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time after another assist from Boadu.
At the start of the second half, Stengs went close to make it 3-0 before RKC were reduced to ten men. Jurien Gaari was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Owen Wijndal.
With ten men, RKC created their best chance but Marco Bizot denied Darren Maatsen. From that point, AZ remained comfortable and saw out the rest of the game.
AZ are now sitting top of the Eredivisie with six points from two games and can now look forward to Thursday’s Europa League with Mariupol.
Badou I love this kid! Looks like a huge season for him. And Badou & Idrissi are linking up great. Lost Til who great start w Spartak Moscow 2 assists. Serie A side was keen in Idrissi but he would be a huge loss. Koops settle in as Captain for Till. Last summer lost Alireza & Weghorst w latter brilliant season for Wolfsburg.
But I think AZ can challenge def get top 3 if use some Til money & keep Idrissi.
