With Wout Weghorst out injured, AZ boss John van den Brom chose attacking midfielder Mats Seuntjens to play up front. His pace in behind was crucial early on, as the visitors enjoyed plenty of room behind the Willem II back-line. Played through by the impressive Jahanbakhsh, Seuntjens found the back of the net.

Minutes later, AZ doubled their lead. This time, new signing Oussama Idrissi slotted in Jahanbakhsh, who made no mistake converting his one-on-one.

Willem II struggled to find a foot-hold in the game throughout. AZ were comfortable and should have walked away from Tilburg with a much bigger win, but their profligacy in front of goal denied them further goals.

AZ finish the weekend still in third place, but only three points behind Ajax who dropped points at Utrecht. Willem II lie in fourteenth after a disappointing afternoon.
