Robert, who is the nephew of former Dutch international’s Gerrie, and Arnold Muhren, has spent his whole career with Volendam, with the 25-year-old netting 50 times in 106 league matches.
Muhren has netted six times already this season for Volendam, but today signed his contract to finally make the step up to the Eredivisie with Marco van Basten’s AZ, who were desperate for a striker after Aron Johannsson’s injury.
Speaking to the official AZ website, Muhren said, “I am very proud that i am going to play football at such a big club like AZ.”
“As top scorer of the Jupiler League, you hope that there is interest coming, but that was some time off. Then AZ reported, and we were quick.”
“It will be tough getting used to a higher level. But I think my game type fits very well in the league. I am technically strong and good at positioning. In the Jupiler League fighting football is still played. Â Hopefully I can follow the example of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Nacer Chadli and Dries Mertens.”
