AZ Alkmaar has confirmed the signing of Swedish striker Jesper Karlsson on a five-year deal.

AZ has been looking for a new striker to compete with Myron Boadu up front and they have now announced the signing of Karlsson for a reported fee of around €2.5 million.

The 22-year-old forward joins from IF Elfsborg, where he made 88 appearances and scored 20 goals. He also provided 16 assists.

Karlsson told the AZ website, “It took a long time, but now it is finished. I am very happy. This transfer means a lot to me, because as a child I dreamed of playing outside of Sweden. Now that dream is coming true.”

Karlsson also has two caps for the Swedish national team. He is the third signing of the summer for AZ after centre-back Timo Letschert and goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst.
