janssen-neth-belThe striker was in high demand last summer after finishing the season as Eredivisie top scorer and after having a number of bids rejected, Tottenham finally convinced AZ Alkmaar to accept an offer of £20 million.

Speaking to AZ Spreekt, director Max Huiberts reflected on the deal, “Afterwards I thought: ‘wow, nice, we have done well’. I was relieved that it was completed well. The buyers, Vincent Janssen, and we were very satisfied.

“But I also understand the fans who think we have lost a very good player. That just happens, we have to deal with that in the Dutch league.”

Janssen is yet to score his first goal in the Premier League, and was recently dropped to the bench in favour of Heung-Min Son, but Huiberts is convinced that the 22-year-old will adapt and shine in England.

“It was said that it was ridiculous that we asked more than 10 million for Vincent because he plays for AZ but then I think why? He is the top scorer in the Netherlands and the number one striker of Oranje. I am sure that he will adapt quickly to the level of the Premier League
