AZ Alkmaar has temporarily climbed to second in the Eredivisie with a 2-0 victory at Heerenveen.

In the early stages, Andries Noppert was in good form to keep the scores level as AZ Alkmaar dominated possession. The Oranje goalkeeper made a good save to deny Jens Odgaard.

The lead came for AZ in the 33rd minute as Odgaard found Dani de Wit, who found a way past Noppert with an excellent header.

A minute into the second half, AZ doubled their lead as a fantastic team move ended with Tiijani Reinders firing past Noppert.

With twenty minutes left, Heerenveen got the chance to pull one back from the penalty spot following a foul by Sam Beukema on Milas van Ewijk. However, Hobie Verhulst saved the spot-kick from Amin Sarr.

AZ then saw out the rest of the game to claim the three points which moves them above Ajax. Heerenveen is in 8th.
