Alireza Jahanbakhsh has revealed that AZ Alkmaar prevented Alireza Jahanbakhsh from joining Ajax, who were willing to break their transfer record for the winger.

In the summer of 2018, AZ sold Jahanbakhsh to Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, but the winger had plenty of clubs interested in him.

In an interview with Persian Football, Jahanbakhsh revealed, “The most serious offers were from Ajax and PSV. Ajax’s offer was even the highest they had ever made on a player, but the AZ management did not want me to go to another club in the Netherlands.”

Napoli, and various Bundesliga clubs were in the running, with Leicester City also making the forward an offer before he chose Brighton, “That was a lot more attractive financially, but everyone I spoke to advised me to go to Brighton.

“Even my father has criticised my choice, but I would now choose Brighton over Leicester again.”
