AZ Alkmaar have put the pressure on Ajax and climbed to the top of the table after a comfortable 4-0 victory over ADO Den Haag.

With Ajax playing away at Heerenveen later on Saturday, AZ knew a win would put them top of the table for at least a few hours.

After only 13 minutes, Laurens De Bock fouled Dani de Wit and Teun Koopmeiners fired AZ in front from the spot. Six minutes later, Owen Wijndal fired in his first league goal of the season after being set up by Oussama Idrissi and it was 2-0.

AZ continued to dominate the game after the early goals but had to wait until the 84th minute to add a third. Koopmeiners found the bottom corner with a curling free-kick. Substitute Ferdy Druijf then wrapped up the win in the last minute after Idrissi’s shot was parried into his path.

The win moves AZ three points clear at the top, while ADO Den Haag remains 17th.
