With Stijn Wuytens departing this summer, AZ are short of a centre-back while Pantelis Hatzidiakos is out injured.
AZ have already been linked with a loan move for Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo. However, VI is also reporting that Wesley Hoedt, who came through the AZ academy before joining Lazio, is also a target.
The 26-year-old has no future with Southampton and has spent the last two seasons on loan with Celta Vigo and Royal Antwerp. He could also move back to AZ on a loan basis.
VI reports that both players are targets but their salary may be an issue. The club are trying to find a new signing before their Champions League qualifier later this month.
