AZ Alkmaar winger Calvin Stengs will miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury during the defeat to PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.

The 18-year-old clashed with Santiago Arias in the first ten minutes of AZ’s 3-2 defeat to PSV on Saturday and was stretchered off. After the game, coach John van den Brom stated that the injury did not look good but they were waiting for the results from the club’s doctor.

On Monday, AZ confirmed that Stengs had suffered an knee ligament damage and will not take part in the rest of the season.

The news will come as a huge blow for Stengs, who was expected to be a revelation for AZ this summer. He made a big impression in the final four games of last season and shone during pre-season.

We can only wish Stengs strength in his recovery and hope he is ready for the start of next season.
