AZ Alkmaar director Max Huiberts has confirmed the club are looking to sign a replacement for Stijn Wuytens.

Wuytens is out of contract this summer and the centre-back has decided to depart Alkmaar, despite the offer of a new deal.

Speaking to AZ TV, Huibers said, “Unfortunately, Stijn has indicated that he does not want to extend his contract, which I find very unfortunate. He was very clear in his choice.”

AZ will now enter the transfer market, “We are currently looking at whether we can strengthen ourselves in that position. That is what the arrows are aimed at right now.”

Huiberts also confirmed its quiet around the club’s star players such as Myron Boadu and Calvin Stengs, “We have a very good selection. Then it is not so bad not to receive phone calls.”
