The 22-year-old represented Netherlands through every youth level including U21’s and was hoping to one day make it to the Oranje squad.
However, Bacuna has now decided to opt for Curacao. He told Voetbal International, “I played in the Oranje squad.
“Of course you hope to reach the big Oranje one day. But you also have to be realistic: guys like Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek, Tonny Vilhena and Georginio Wijnaldum are in my position. That is a really good class and therefore difficult to intervene. ”
Curacao national team coach Remko Bicentini has been in constant contact with Bacuna and has finally convinced him to join his squad, “That also immediately indicates how serious he is. A few years ago, the national team did not represent much. Nowadays they play for prizes. There is really a good team. The goal is to reach the World Cup in Qatar. That will be quite a challenge, but I would like to try to make history with the team. “
Bacuna will now play alongside his brother Leandro, “And that is a long-cherished dream that will finally come true. We already talked about that when we were little and both played at FC Groningen. ”
Curacao could have a seven team for Gold Cup if they get some of the players on the outs of Oranje squad. Have been talks of PVA too & others. Tho Weghorst should be playing for Oranje he will have another great season.
But with Bacuna if they did get PVA maybe Mensah who I still rate highly, Maher, & others they could be strongest team w Mexico in that section.
I’ve always wanted to got to Curacao too hear it’s lovely.
