Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona believes it was Manchester City who made a €70 million offer for Frenkie de Jong in the summer.

Barcelona was heavily linked with a move for De Jong in the summer but the number of clubs set to rival them for the midfielder continues to grow.

A €70 million offer was reportedly rejected by Ajax in the summer with Barcelona believing that it was Manchester City who submitted the bid. However, De Jong didn’t want to leave Amsterdam in the summer and is set to stay until the end of the campaign.

Mundo Deportivo adds that Barcelona is still confident of signing the 21-year-old and think he favours a move to the Nou Camp as he wants to play with Lionel Messi.
