The Catalan giants have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old recently, who they see as a future replacement for Sergio Busquets.

AS in Spain are now reporting that representatives from Barcelona are to sit down with De Jong’s camp next week and are close to an oral agreement over a contract. According to the newspaper, Ajax would get between €30-35 million for the transfer.

Barcelona was willing to wait until 2019 to sign De Jong, but increased interest from other sides has made the La Liga champions move to seal a deal quickly. Some reports suggest that Barcelona would be willing to send De Jong back to Ajax for another year on loan.
