The Spanish giants wanted to sign the centre-back last summer from Ajax, but De Ligt eventually chose Juventus. The Oranje defender has struggled to hold down a constant place in the Serie A side’s defence, with Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Merih Demiral and Daniele Rugani all providing competition.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona now senses an opportunity to sign the Dutch international. Chairman Josep Bartomeu is a big fan of the De Ligt and would look to sign him to ease pressure on the club’s board.
However, Barcelona are short of funds at the moment and reports recently stated they were considering swap moves in the summer. Barcelona hopes that Juventus interest in Arthur Melo could help drive down the price for De Ligt.
