According to reliable Spanish journalist, Gerard Romero, Barcelona are set to make another approach for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Spanish giants have been constantly linked with the 21-year-old this summer but Ajax have so far resisted any interest and maintained that De Jong is set to remain in Amsterdam.

However, Barcelona won’t give up and Gerard Romero is reporting that despite Marc Overmars telling them no three times, a third approach is set to be made. Talks took place between the Catalan’s and De Jong’s representatives on Saturday.

It is unknown whether Barcelona are still looking to sign De Jong this summer or are trying to agree a deal for next year in order to beat off any competition that could come from other clubs.

De Jong himself told AT5 when asked if he would stay at Ajax this summer, “I can not promise that, of course. But as it stands now. I think I will stay with Ajax this season.”
