Go Ahead Eagles captain Bart Vriends has signed for Sparta Rotterdam on a free transfer. The central defender has signed a two-year deal with an option for a 3rd.

Bart Vriends (25) arrived at the club from Deventer from FC Utrecht in 2013 where he quickly became a regular in the starting lineup and a fan favourite. He made a total of 63 appearances for Go Ahead Eagles scoring 3 goals .
Bart Vriends managed to achieve promotion to the Eredivisie twice during his time in Deventer. He also captained the team when they played in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League against Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros last season.
Vriends stated on the Go Ahead Eagles website, “I am really happy with my move to Sparta Rotterdam. I have really enjoyed my time here and we have achieved great things together such as promotion. Due to the fact that Go Ahead Eagles will be playing in Eredivisie next season I can be satisfied as I bid farewell to the club.”
