Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann believes Ryan Gravenberch is one of the best players in his age range, but adds he needs to be patient in his search for more playing time.

Gravenberch knows he needs more playing time to reach the World Cup squad for the Netherlands, but so far he is yet to make a start in the Bundesliga or Champions League.

Nagelsmann was asked about Gravenberch in the run-up to Bayern Munich’s clash with Viktoria Plzen. The coach was full of praise for the midfielder but added he needs to be patient.

He said at his press conference, “It is important to look at his age. He is a young player who has come to a gigantic club, where a lot of absolute top players still happen to be around. Patience is very important.

“The most important thing is to keep communicating with such a boy. He needs to know what I continue to expect from him. It is important that Gravenberch hears on which points he still needs to improve in order to get more playing time.”

Nagelsmann will not confirm whether Gravenberch will start on Tuesday, “It may just be that he gets a starting spot, but I haven’t made that decision yet. It also depends on how much we need to rotate at other positions. I don’t want to switch too much.”

Gravenberch has the full confidence of Nagelsmann though, “He has my complete confidence. He also knows exactly what he needs to fit our style of play perfectly. He has everything a footballer needs. He has a fantastic dribble and can play out under the pressure.’

“Ryan is better than most other footballers in Europe his age. You must have patience. This is Bayern Munich. You have to be better than the other players because there is no reason for me not to field the best.”
