Jong Oranje started the Euro qualifiers with an encouraging 1-1 draw with England but then followed it up with a shock 2-0 defeat in Scotland. On the 6th of October, Netherlands host Latvia before facing Ukraine four days later in two must-win ties.

Langeler has recalled Riechedly Bazoer to the U21 fold after resolving an issue with the Wolfsburg midfielder, who has been omitted since refusing a call-up for the friendlies with Finland and Austria earlier this year.
