PSV Eindhoven returned to winning ways on Saturday with a Steven Bergwijn double ensuring a 2-0 victory over Excelsior.

After three consecutive draws, PSV needed to get back to winning ways at Excelsior. Mark van Bommel decided to drop Gaston Pereiro to the bench with 17-year-old Mohammed Ihattaren handed his first start. Michal Sadilek also came into the XI in place of the injured Jorrit Hendrix.

PSV dominated from the start and they took the lead in the 8th minute when Steven Bergwijn finished off a nice team move.

However, that proved to be the only goal of the first half despite the visitors dominance. AngeliƱo shot wide while Luuk de Jong was also off-target. Hirving Lozano also had a frustrating first-half and saw a yellow card for diving.

In the 54th minute, PSV doubled their lead when Bergwijn latched onto a poor defensive header before firing past Alessandro Damen from close range.

PSV then comfortably saw out the rest of the game but Lozano was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty late on when he was clearly shoved over in the box. For some reason VAR did not intervene.

The victory moves PSV four points ahead of Ajax, who do not play this weekend. Excelsior are 14th.
