Steven Bergwijn’s double saw PSV Eindhoven end their horrible run of form with a 2-1 win over Heerenveen.

PSV went into the clash without a win in their last six games, but Mark van Bommel was once again able to call upon star forwards Steven Bergwijn and Donyell Malen. Denzel Dumfries also wore the captains armband for the first time.

Malen went close to the opener early on after a fantastic pass by Mohammed Ihattaren, but Warner Hahn denied the striker. In the 17th minute, it was 1-0 thanks to an excellent run and strike by Bergwijn.

In the 36th minute, it was 2-0 thanks to a lovely curled strike by Bergwijn into the corner of the net.

After the break, PSV were less dominant and in the 55th minute, Heerenveen pulled one back. Chidera Ejuke passed for Jens Odgaard to finish past Lars Unnerstall.

The goal made PSV nervous but Unnerstall proved why he is the new number one goalkeeper with an excellent save to deny Sven Botman an equaliser in injury time.

PSV return to winning ways but remain third while Heerenveen are 7th.
