The provisional Australia squad was announced on Monday morning with Feyenoord goalkeeper Brad Jones included along with 38-year-old striker Tim Cahill.

van Marwijk said on the decision to include the veteran, ”Tim Cahill is a special case.

”He is special in the case that he is 38-years-old and one of the best players to ever play for Australia.

”He is a very good striker who has not played very often for his club this season apart from coming on a substitute every now and again for 10 or 20 minutes.

”I must take a decision as to whether or not I will take him to the World Cup in Russia but he is definitely a player that can make a difference.

”I have to make a choice regarding my strikers and that will not be easy but I am here as Australian national team manager to make those kinds of decisions. ”
