Kuipers said, ”I would have liked to see the Dutch national team qualify for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

”At the last World Cup in Brazil I was the referee for England v Italy, France v Switzerland and Colombia v Uruguay in the Maracana that was a very passionate match. When the Dutch national team reached the semi-final’s my team and I could return home to the Netherlands.

”I am 45 years old which means that I must pay attention to my body and maintain a good fitness level. I am going to the World Cup in Russia fitter than I have ever been.

”Everybody has the same dream to referee the World Cup final and I am no different ”
