Two weeks ago, Rekik suffered the ankle injury, and traveled to England to have a second opinion, which has confirmed the need for surgery for the big centre back.
The 18 year old who is on loan from Manchester City will undergo surgery on Tuesday, and is set for a spell on the sidelines. Last week Voetbal International speculated that Rekik will be out for at least four weeks, but the exact length of recovery is still not known.
The injury will come as a bitter blow for PSV coach Phillip Cocu, with Rekik one of the standout performers for the title challengers, who are now short on cover, after selling Marcelo, and releasing Wilfred Bouma in the summer.
18 year old Jorrit Hendrix has stood in for Rekik in the past two Eredivisie matches, and will now have the opportunity to impress for at least the next month.
PSV have a busy schedule over the next few months, with league action, including this weekends tie with Ajax, and the Europa League set to stretch their already young squad.
