Before the game there was an impressive tribute to Feyenoord legend Carlo de Leeuw, who died recently. A minutes applause rang out in De Kuip to honour the club hero.
The first half in Rotterdam was a drab affair with neither side going close to an opener.
The game finally came alive in the 51st minute when Feyenoord were awarded a penalty with the help of VAR. Robert Bozenik was pushed in the back and Steven Berghuis converted the spot-kick.
Ten minutes later, VAR also rewarded Fortuna a penalty for a foul by Justin Bijlow on Felix Passlack. Mark Diemers made no mistake to make it 1-1.
In the 71st minute, Feyenoord regained their lead when Rick Karsdorp’s cross was prodded into the goal by the outstretched leg of Bozenik. It was the youngster’s second Eredivisie goal since joining Feyenoord and it once again resulted in three points for the Rotterdammers.
Feyenoord have now not lost in twelve games in a row and they sit third and only one point behind AZ Alkmaar. Fortuna Sittard are 15th.
