The left-back has been a regular at Utrecht this season and had a contract until 2018, but he has agreed a deal with the club’s management to end the deal early for family reasons. Braafheid will now move to the United States in order to live with his wife, who is American.

The 34-year-old felt he could no longer concentrate fully on playing with Utrecht and doesn’t know whether he will continue his career in America.

Braaheid started his career with Utrecht and went on to play for FC Twente, Bayern Munich, Celtic, 1899 Hoffenheim and Lazio before returning in 2016.
