AZ Alkmaar moved a step closer to the Europa League knockout stages after a simple 5-0 victory at Astana.

AZ put six goals past the Kazakhstan side two weeks ago and once again on Thursday they were far too strong for Astana.

The Dutch side dominated from the start but had to wait until the 29th minute to break the deadlock. Myron Boadu finished well after latching onto Dani de Wit’s pass.

Seven minutes into the second half, Fredrik Midtsjø doubled AZ’s lead with a deflected effort. Five minutes later, Oussama Idrissi made it 3-0 after tapping in Boadu’s cross.

AZ continued to pour forward and Pantelis Hatzidiakos made it 4-0 before the excellent Boadu sealed the 5-0 victory in the 77th minute.

AZ jump to the top of the group above Manchester United, who face Partizan Belgrade later on Thursday.
