Ruud Brood took charge of NAC Breda for the first time on Sunday but couldn’t get a win on his debut. VVV Venlo came away with a 1-1 draw.

Brood rung the changes for his debut in charge of the Eredivisie’s bottom side. Greg Leigh, Mounir El Allouchi, Gervane Kastaneer, Anouar Kali and Giovanni Korte all came into the starting eleven.

NAC Breda made a bright start with Mitchell Te Vrede hitting the bar, but in the 14th minute the hosts found themselves behind. A ball over the top was misjudged by Pele van Aanholt which allowed Peniel Mlapa in on goal and he calmly slotted in the opener.

Te Vrede went close to an equaliser with a header just after the break as NAC pushed forward. In the 66th minute, it was 1-1 as Leigh headed past Lars Unnerstall.

Shortly afterwards it seemed NAC were awarded a penalty for contact by Ralf Seuntjens on Mounir El Allouchi. However the decision was overturned by VAR.

El Allouchi was then sent off after receiving his second yellow card which dented NAC’s chances of finding a late winner. Brood threw on young striker Sydney van Hooijdonk, but the game ended 1-1.

NAC remains rooted to the bottom of the table and eight points from safety. VVV are 11th.
