Thomas Buitink has been a revelation for Vitesse Arnhem in recent weeks and he does not regret turning down a move to the Premier League years ago.

The 18-year-old striker has broken into the Vitesse first-team with seven goals in 16 appearances so far this season.

However, Buitink had the chance to move to either Manchester City or Arsenal when he was 14.

Speaking to De Gelderlander, Buitink said, “I wanted to stay at home (in Nijkerk). In a protected environment. I don’t like the big name or the bluff. The Veluwe was better than a flat in London or Manchester.”

Buitink could have earned a lot more money in England, but he is not bothered by that, “That’s true. But I have made a conscious choice.”
