The full back has been the fringes of the starting eleven since joining the Premier League champions from Vitesse back in 2012. In two seasons, Buttner has only appeared 15 times, with only six of those coming in the Premier League.
Speaking to MUTV, Buttner has outlined his determination to break into David Moyes’s first team and earn a place in Netherlands national team.
He said, “When I watch Holland it gives me great encouragement. I really want to play for my country. It’s just a matter of waiting for my chance and taking it when it comes.”
“I have to play more games here to be able to break into the national team. I hope that my chances will come soon. I want to get in the national team on merit and I believe I can do it.”
Competition for the left back spot in Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad is fierce, with Jetro Willems, Daley Blind, Miquel Nelom, and Bruno Martins Indi all ahead of Buttner in the pecking order.
