AZ failed to move back into the top six of the Eredivisie after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cambuur in Leeuwarden.

manu asWith one eye on the Europa League quarter final with Benfica next week, AZ coach Dick Advocaat gave Aron Johannsson a rest, with Denni Avdic given a rare start up front.

It was Advic who caused the biggest talking point of the match when he had a perfectly good goal ruled out by referee Ed Janssen in the second half. When Leonard Nienhuis failed to claim the ball, AZ defender Nick Viergever slid in to knock it into the path of Avdic, who tapped into an empty net. However Janssen pulled the play back for an alleged foul, much to the fury of coach Dick Advocaat.

Cambuur were the better side early on in the game with Martijn Barto, Elvis Manu and Jody Lukoki all wasting good opportunities in the first half.

The second period saw AZ take charge but apart from the disallowed goal they barely threatened, and in the last minute Michiel Hemmen missed a glorious chance to steal all three points for Cambuur.

The point sees neither side change their position, with Cambuur comfortable in 11th, while AZ sit 7th.
