AZ Alkmaar made it three wins in a row with a well earned 2-0 win over Cambuur in Leeuwarden.

cambuur - azBoth sides went into the game looking for a win that would see them close the gap on the top four, but it was Cambuur who created the first chance as Esteban was forced into a good save to deny Michiel Hemmen while the rebound was fired wide by Sander van de Streek.

Five minutes before the break AZ were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box and Nemanja Gudelj made no mistake from the spot to give the away side a half time lead.

Early in the first half Esteban made a terrific save from Hemmen’s header before Gudelj netted his 2nd of the game, smashing Jeffrey Gouweleeuw’s cut-back past a helpless Leonard Nienhuis.

Maumer Tankovic and Guus Hupperts both missed great chances to extend AZ’s lead further as they comfortably held on for the three points. The win keeps AZ fifth, but they are now only one point behind Feyenoord in fourth while Cambuur stay 6th.
