The home side started the game brightly, but after only eight minutes any chance of them securing a result was ended when Sander van den Streek was sent off for blocking Andres Guardado’s shot with his hands. The resulting penalty was neatly tucked away by Luuk de Jong.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 as De Jong rose above his marker to send a header from Maxime Lestienne’s cross into the bottom corner. The Belgian winger nearly added a goal for himself soon afterwards but his curling shot clipped the crossbar before rebounding to safety.
Just before the break De Jong completed his hat-trick from close range after Joshua Brenet’s shot was parried by Zeinstra.
Ten minutes into the second half Davy Propper fired in from the edge of the box for PSV’s 4th, and the midfielder’s first for the club. Jurgen Locadia then came off the bench to make it 5-0 with a free kick from just outside the area, before the striker completed the scoring in the final minute.
Thanks to Ajax’s draw with Twente, PSV are now two points behind the leaders. Cambuur remain 2nd bottom.
