klaassenCambuur started the better of the two sides, as they pressured a shaky and out of sorts Ajax into making mistakes at the back, but with their first effort on goal Ajax led on 40 minutes. Davy Klaassen’s cross found an unmarked Lasse Schone in the box, and the midfielder had the easiest of finishes to put Ajax 1-0 up.

The home side continued to dominate after the break, but found Joel Veltman in the way of every cross into the box, as the defender put in another great performance.

On 82 minutes Cambuur thought they had rescued a point as Michiel Hemmen got between Veltman and Cillessen to deservedly equalise.

However in stoppage time, Cambuur were first reduced to ten men when Marcel Ritzmaier was shown his second yellow card, then after short corner, Daley Blind’s shot was deflected into the path of Davy Klaassen who netted Ajax’s winner.

A smash and grab victory for Ajax after a poor performance, but Frank de Boer will not mind, as his side temporarily go top before Vitesse play later on Sunday. Cambuur will be devastated that they could not hold onto a point after such a good performance.
