During the week an error from Jasper Cillessen handed Barcelona the lead during the Champions League defeat, and two minutes into the match against Cambuur the goalkeeper was once again at fault as the home side took the lead. Cillessen tried to pass his way out of trouble from a throw in instead of picking the ball up, and after colliding with Niklas Moisander, he was out of position for Sebastian Steblecki to fire into the net from Furdjel Narsingh’s cross.
Cambuur were dominating the opening period, but with Ajax’s first real attack they drew level as Arkaduisz Milik, who was preferred to Kolbeinn Sigthorsson in attack, raced onto a ball over the top before brilliantly curling into the top corner from just inside the box.
The Polish forward played a part a few minutes later as Ajax took the lead, as his lovely backheel to Lasse Schone allowed the midfielder space to find Davy Klaassen in the box, and the number ten finished with ease.
Cambuur put pressure on Ajax at the start of the second half, but on the hour mark another wonderful team move from Ajax made it 3-1 as Milik netted his second of the match from close range after Anwar El Ghazi teed him up.
El Ghazi then added the fourth on 78 minutes as his poor shot took a deflection and with Leonard Nienhuis already on the ground he could only watch as the ball looped over his head.
In the third minute of injury Cambuur won a soft penalty for a foul on Michiel Hemmen and Bartholomew Ogbeche rolled it in for a consolation goal.
The win is Ajax’s third league victory in a row and keeps up the pressure on leaders PSV as they move one point behind them, while Cambuur sit 7th.
