In his short spell at Heerenveen, Eikrem struggled to make an impact at the start of the season, but eventually became a key player, appearing 13 times in the Eredivisie, scoring twice.

After the deal was announced Heerenveen issued a statement on their website, which read:

“Heerenveen regrets the departure of Manus Eikrem after six months, but the Norwegian was recently given permission to hold talks with Cardiff City after having indicated that he wanted to go for the good of his career.

“It is also very important for the club’s financial health, and that has certainly played a role in the decision to allow Eikrem to make the transfer.”

“Magnus Eikrem was a model professional both on and off the field at Heerenveen. The club wishes him every success in his future career at Cardiff City.”

Eikrem is now in his second spell with a Premier League side having been a part of the Manchester United youth team.
