Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 23-year-old in the British press recently, while Newcastle United and Sunderland are also said to be admirers of the former Groningen star.
However speaking after Van Dijk scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Partick Thistle on Wednesday, Celtic boss Ronny Delia stated the Dutchman was an integral part of his plans and he hoped to keep hold of him.
Delia told BBC Scotland, “Virgil is a very important player,”
“He is a leader in the group and on the pitch he is performing week in week out, again we had a clean sheet and Virgil was very good today, scoring another goal. We are building a team around him and of course we want to keep him.”
