Celtic manager Neil Lennon was present in the Philips Stadion to see Ajax get beat 4-0 by PSV Eindhoven, and with the two clubs not meeting in the Champions League until the end of October, it is not believed he was there to observe the Eredivisie champions.
According to Voetbal International, Lennon was there to see striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson ahead of a possible move in January for the Icelandic international.
The 23 year old forward joined Ajax back in 2011 from AZ Alkmaar, but has suffered from several injuries, limiting him to only 34 league appearances, but has scored an impressive 17 goals.
Arsenal have previously been linked with Sigthorsson, and Ajax would be looking for close to €10 million if they were to part with their key striker to Celtic.
The Scottish Premier League champions were also linked with Heerenveen forward Alfred Finnbogason, and AZ Alkmaar’s Aron Johannsson over the summer. They failed with a low bid for Finnbogason, and with the forwards price now sky rocketing after an impressive start to the season, a return bid is unlikely in January.
