Ajax host Bayern Munich on Wednesday looking for a victory which will seal top spot in the group.

Ajax have already sealed their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League after an excellent campaign so far which has seen the Amsterdammers win three and draw two of their five games so far.

However, top spot is still up for grabs and a win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday would grant Erik ten Hag’s side a more favourable draw in the last 16.

Ten Hag told his press conference on Wednesday that a win is important for the club, “You have the chance to avoid the strongest teams, but it is not a certainty. But we also want to test ourselves, it is a huge challenge.”

Ajax have won nine league games in a row and drew the reverse clash 1-1 in Munich but since then Bayern have been improving recently and they head to Amsterdam top of the group and on a three game winning streak.

Team News

Kasper Dolberg, Hakim Ziyech, Andre Onana and Donny van de Beek are all available to Erik ten Hag after injury concerns. Daley Sinkgraven could also make his first appearance in the Champions League after recovering from a long-term issue.

In the away clash against Bayern, Ten Hag played Dusan Tadic as a false-nine and it’s possible he may line-up in the same way.

Possible Ajax line-up: Onana, Mazraoui, Tagliafico, De Ligt, Blind, Schone, De Jong, Van de Beek, Ziyech, Neres, Tadic

Bayern Munich will be without the injured Arjen Robben, James Rodríguez and Corentin Tolisso.

Possible Bayern line-up: Neuer, Kimmich, Boateng, Süle, Alaba, Martinez, Thiago, Gnabry, Müller, Coman, Lewandowski.

Ajax 14/5 Draw 14/5 Bayern 1/1

Head to Head

The two European giants have met on nine occasions and both have three wins apiece, while three clashes including the reverse fixture in the group have ended in a draw.

Can Ajax seal top spot?

Ajax are in great form and they have been fantastic in the Champions League so far. Bayern go into the clash as favourites with the bookies, but don’t count out Ajax causing another surprise and taking top spot for themselves.

Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong have both been linked with Bayern Munich recently and they will be keen to show why they are so highly regarded. If the duo are at the top of their game then Ajax have a great chance.
