A goal from Tahith Chong was enough for Netherlands U17’s to beat Sweden in the European Championships quarter-final.

u17 chongThe Dutch dominated from the start but failed to make the breakthrough in the first half with Dylan Vente and Donyell Malen both going close.

Finally, after the hour mark the deadlock was broken as Mattias De Ligt won a header in the box and Tahith Chong diverted the ball into the net from close range.

Sweden almost equalised on 68 minutes but van de Meulhof made an incredible fingertip save to divert Soro’s shot just wide. At the other end Kadioglu nearly settled the tie but his goalbound shot was blocked by teammate Malen.

Netherlands will now face Portugal in the semi-finals on Wednesday but must do without Dylan Vente who is suspended after picking up a yellow card late in the game.
