Young Dutch winger Tahith Chong finally made his Manchester United debut during the 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The 19-year-old has made a big impression in the Manchester United academy since joining from Feyenoord in 2016. He was part of matchday squads under Jose Mourinho but wasn’t given his chance until Saturday.

New interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named Chong on the bench for the FA Cup tie with Reading and with the score at 2-0, the winger was brought onto the pitch after an hour.

After the game, Solskjaer praised the youngster, “He had two, three good moments, as you expect from someone at that age. He was not immediately dominant, but no one succeeds in his first game.

“He got the audience excited and showed them a glimpse of his true abilities a few times. As he has shown on the training.”

Chong will be hoping for more first team chances before the end of the season. Next up for Manchester United is a trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
