cillessen ajax mBarcelona agreed a fee with Ajax last week for Cillessen and the goalkeeper confirmed on Wednesday that he would fly to Spain for his medical. However, he is leaving with a heavy heart after Ajax’s exit from the Champions League.

He said, ”Tonight was one of my worst ever matches as an Ajax player. Our tempo was far too low and we certainly did not start well and to leave the club on this note is sour. In principle, it was tonight my last game for Ajax because the transfer has not been made official and you never know with regards to a medical and the paperwork involved. Tonight I am travelling onto Barcelona for a medical.

”I am not aware of all the formalities planned because I have been concentrating on tonight’s game but my agent told me that I will hear about the details on Wednesday evening. I wanted to leave this club with a fantastic feeling and with the possibility of playing against Ajax in the Champions League. FC Barcelona made it clear that I could play all the games including Willem II last Saturday but the manager made a different choice and I had to respect that.  I am not in the position to go against the manager and force a place in the starting lineup.

”I don’t know if I will become number 1 goalkeeper by FC Barcelona that is up to Luis Enrique to decide. I have to convince him that I am worthy of being the number 1 goalkeeper for FC Barcelona”.
