Last weekend in the 2-1 defeat to Heracles, Pelle was sent off for violent conduct, and will miss the next three league games for the Rotterdam side.
This meant Koeman had to name a new captain for the next three weeks, and possibly longer, as he is reportedly doubting his decision to hand the Italian the captaincy from Stefan de Vrij last month.
Today, the Feyenoord coach announced in his press conference that midfielder Jordy Clasie will take the armband, a decision he thinks was obvious.
Koeman said, “I want to first look at how it goes in the coming weeks. Jordy is our second captain and an international. Therefore it makes sense that he gets the band.”
Clasie’s first task as captain will be to help his side get their title race back on track on Sunday as they travel to face Cambuur without their top scorer Pelle.
