Despite interest from Ajax and Sevilla, Cocu thinks the best development for Bergwijn is to continue with PSV. The new Derby County manager said, “It’s always good for a young player – he’s still very young – to get a few seasons in the Dutch league as a striker.”

“He has learnt and has got better every season,” Cocu continued, “So if the player gets a feeling that he cannot step up anymore, he will make a decision to move abroad, to develop himself to a higher level. He’s a player with really, really big potential. So we’ll see if something happens or not.”
